Ranieri graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2003 at the University of Pisa, Italy, where he also obtained his PhD (wildlife pathology).

Ranieri was Senior Lecturer of Veterinary Pathology at the University of Liverpool, UK, from 2013 till 2019 and Associate Professor of Veterinary Pathology at the University of Padova, Italy, from 2019 till 2024.

Since 2013 he is Diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM – wildlife population health) and he is Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) since 2016.

Currently he is Associate Professor of Veterinary Pathology at the University of Pisa, Department of Veterinary Sciences, where he is involved in the post mortem and surgical biopsy diagnostic service and veterinary pathology teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students within the frame of the ECVP residency programme that he runs as programme director.

Ranieri is currently a full member of the exam committee of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists and he is author of numerous international scientific publications in the field of Veterinary Pathology.
